"Think ye that Jesus went happily to the Cross, or that He went happily from the garden where there had been so little consideration by those of His followers as to what the moment meant? when they slept as He wrestled with self in the garden?" (262-108) "Q: Am I right in believing the real crucifixion of Jesus was in the suffering He was called upon to endure in meeting the tests involved in the initiation to which He was subjected before He began His ministry? "A: No. The real test was in the garden when in the realization that He had met every test and yet must know the pang of death." (5277-1) "See the funny side; don't be too serious. He even made the joke as He walked to the garden to be betrayed. He looked with love upon His disciple that denied Him, even as He stood alone." (2448-2) "Those periods in the garden - these become that in which the great trial is shown, and the seeming indifference and the feeling of the loss of one in whom trust and hope had been given; and the fulfilling of all that had been in the purpose and the desire in the entrance into the world. "The trial - this was not with the pangs of pain as so oft indicated, but rather glorying in the opportunity of taking upon self that which would right man's relationship to the Father - in that man, through his free will, had brought sin into the activities of the children of God. Here His son was bringing redemption through the shedding of blood that they might be free. Here the law of love, of causation, of mercy, of justice, of all that makes for self becoming in the atonement relationship, of filling the purposes for which one is called in materiality, becomes the activity of Him that is free indeed. "Thus in the hour of sacrifice, material, mental and spiritual relationships are attained and considered in His every word. In those periods of transition from 'it is finished,' comes that which is to each heart the determination that it, too, may know the blessed hope that comes in seeing, knowing, experiencing the Cross in the heart, the body, the mind." (5749-10) "Thus ye may constructively use spiritual attunement, which is the birthright of each soul; ye may use it as a helpful influence in thy experiences in the earth. But make haste SLOWLY! Prepare the body. Prepare the mind, before ye attempt to loosen it in such measures or manners that it may be taken hold upon by those influences which constantly seek expressions of self rather than of a living, constructive influence of a CRUCIFIED Savior. Then, crucify desire in self, that ye may be awakened to the real abilities of helpfulness that lie within thy grasp," (2475- 1) "The purpose being in the right direction, the loneliness is felt because of the feeling of insecurity. Let that light be in and through thee that encompassed Him, even in the garden when He asked those to watch with Him while He prayed, Surround thyself with that consciousness which comes in merely calling the name - Jesus, the Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever! This will bring the conviction within self as it did to Him when He withstood the temptations of the body the temptations of the mind, the temptation of purpose in the earth, and angels ministered unto Him. For, to each entity, each soul, there is ever the ministering angel before the throne of grace, the throne of God. The ministering angel is the purposefulness, the spirit with which ye would do anything in relationship to others." (3357-2) "For, as then, the evolution of man's experiences is for the individual purpose of becoming more and more acquainted with those activities in the relationships with the fellow man, as an exemplification, as a manifestation of Divine Love - as was shown by the Son of man, Jesus; that EACH and every soul MUST BECOME, MUST BE, the SAVIOR of some soul! to even COMPREHEND the purpose of the entrance of the Son into the earth - that man might have the closer walk with, yea the open door to, the very heart of the living God!" (1472-3) The passion of Jesus Christ is not bodily pain suffered. It is not abandonment by devoted friends and followers, as sad and lonesome as that was. It is not public humiliation and condemnation, as distasteful as that was. The real passion is the same one that every soul experiences: It is the inner struggle to do what one has come to know as right, as good, and in harmony with Nature, with God. Each of us must take up the cross of right thinking, right purposes, right attitudes each day. The prophecies in the Book of Daniel and the Revelation speak of tribulations and a great tribulation that precedes the liberation and love that results from meeting all tests. Cayce's readings address this: "Q: Is this the period of the great tribulation spoken of in Revelation or just the beginning, and if so just how can we help ourselves and others to walk more closely with God? "A: The great tribulation and periods of tribulation are the experiences of every soul, every entity arise from influences created by man through activity in the sphere of any sojourn. Man may become, with the people of the universe, ruler of any of the various spheres through which the soul passes in its experiences. Hence, as the cycles pass, as the cycles are passing, when there is come a time, a period of readjusting in the spheres, (as well as in the little earth, the little soul), then seek to present self spotless before that throne; even as all are commanded to be circumspect, in thought, in act, to that which is held by self as that necessary for the closer walk with Him. In that manner only may each atom (as man is an atom, or corpuscle, in the body of the Father) become a helpmeet with Him in bringing that to pass that all may be one with Him." (281-16) Each of us wrestles within ourselves to do what we know deep within us is best. Each of us wrestles to learn ever higher levels of truth, wisdom, and love - getting up each time we stumble, searching again each time we get lost. The great suffering is letting go of our will sufficiently to feel, to know, and to accept God's will over our own ideas. This is the real passion of Jesus Christ. it always helps to keep an eye on the resurrection, the happy ending, the promised land that awaits us on the other side of our suffering. Remember that job received a hundredfold what he lost in his tests, and Jesus returned and enjoyed being with all his friends and followers again, walking and talking with them, eating fish and honey with them on the beach. Suffering is not the goal. It is a natural feeling experienced by one who is transforming, who is dying to the old and birthing the new. We are moving from self-willed, self-conscious beings into oneness with the God of infinity, toward universal consciousness and love. The current self is in pain as it gives birth to the new self. Present loves and beliefs strain under the pressure to perceive and allow higher levels of love and truth. This is the true passion, and it is the passion that every soul, every entity goes through. §
