The Symbolic Image

The scale is a measuring device intended for weighing things,

The beam wavers between two trays which tilt first to one side and then the other.

The slightest thing can make the beam of the scale waver.

When the trays are balanced, their contents are interchangeable.

The beam can only tilt to one side at a time.

Another weight must be added to the opposite tray to restore equilibrium.

The scale symbolizes justice: it represents weighing of human actions.

"To cogitate means to stir up Ideas and to make them dissolve

and to discuss to strike in All directions; but to think means to weigh and that is my task"

September. The Beginning of Autumn

The Autumn equinox arrives: days and nights are of equal length.

Nevertheless, nights gradually become longer than days.

Summer is ending, and, as heat diminishes, temperatures decline.

The Sun is descending, and the leaves begin to fall.

The natural world is in a state of decline: trees lose their leaves, and the bare branches become visible.

As Autumn begins, roses fall from the bush under the weakening rays of the Sun.

Animals go into their burrows, and prepare for cold weather.

Air

Air, the element of exchanges, mobility and diffusion, corresponds to Libra. It is specifi-

cally represented by Libra's position within the zodiacal cycle: the cardinal air of Libra, where natives tend to evaluate situations according to their feelings, is situated between the mutable air of Gemini (the wind, exchanging of ideas, bonds derived from friendship) and the fixed air of Aquarius (the limpid sky of Winter: psychic attachments, fraternal devotion).  These traits produce a highly active person who can be cheerful or excitable (according to the particular situation, the cheerful type is extroverted, and the excitable

type is introverted).

@The air of Libra resembles the air of a sky where the clouds are drawn toward one another as they are driven by the Autumn wind.

As the clouds mingle with one another, they regroup and separate under the power of the wind,

The clouds are always in motion, and are molded by the breath of deities.  Our imaginations perceive arabesques or all types of shapes.
